About Austin CarShare

CarSharing can work for ou if you are:

Carsharing gives you 24 hour a day access to a network of late model, reliable cars and trucks for your transportation needs.

As a member of a carshare organization, you never have to wait in line or fill out forms - Simply wave your member key over the windshield of your reserved car and go!

Since gas, insurance, cleaning, and maintenance are included, you don’t have to worry about any of the hassles of owning a car.

  Cost Savings

Likely Business and Institutional Users

Since you only pay for the time you use a car with carsharing, you can make educated decisions about transportation without hidden costs like depreciation.

If you drive 10,000 miles or less a year, you will end up paying less than owning a car.

The average Austin Carshare member pays on average only $55 per month for our cars on-demand. Add a $10/month bus pass, and this is an over 90% savings over the average monthly cost of owning a car based on AAA studies.

Visit the True Cost to Own Calculator from Edmunds to find the cost of own your car by its make, model, and year.

Carsharing has a real effect on making the air we breathe cleaner.
San Francisco's City Carshare found that members reduced their gasoline consumption and their CO2 emissions by 90% over a 2 year period versus non-members.

Not only are emissions reduced due to less car travel, but carshare users also drive newer, more fuel-efficient cars including hybrids.
Austin Carshare has newer, more fuel efficient cars decreasing your impact on our air quality.

  Less Traffic

Because Carsharing is designed to reposition the automobile as a transportation option instead of the ONLY choice for transportation, it can have a real effect on the drivers’ potential impact on traffic.

In a 2004 study, San Francisco’s City Carshare found a 47% reduction in car travel among carshare members. This study also found a 25% increase in public transit usage with its members.

PhillyCarShare estimates that each carshare network car removes 11 private cars from the road plus 12 more as members postponed new car purchases.

Carsharing works to help create a more livable city by reducing the number of cars on the road and changing the way our city grows. This means less pollution and traffic congestion, and more available parking.

Carsharing provides more transportation options for those who can’t afford or choose not to own a car.

By bridging the gap between car ownership and other transportation, carsharing promotes more efficient, pedestrian friendly use of land and creates more transportation options for all parts of our society.
